Degree pathways

Natcoll currently has formal degree pathways in place with a number of institutions. The agreements provide Natcoll graduates with the opportunity to cross credit into degree programmes with the institutions listed below. In some cases credits can be used to enter the final year of a three year degree. The degree pathways listed below are reviewed regularly, Natcoll reserves the right to make changes at any time.

Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in Australia

Graduates of the Diploma of Digital Filmmaking (Advanced) can apply for credit for one semester towards RMIT's 3-year Bachelor of Arts (Animation and Interactive Media) degree. This is subject to visa requirements, availability of places and submission of a suitable portfolio of work.

English language requirements are IELTS 6.5+ (no band less than 6.0) or TOEFL paper-based 580+ (TWE 4.5+) or TOEFL computer-based 237+ (TWE 4.5+).

Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec) in Hamilton

Digital Media (Advanced) graduates can apply for direct entry to year 3 of Wintec's 3-year Bachelor of Media Arts (Visual Arts) degree provided they get a grade of at least 60% in Natcoll's DMA course.

Natcoll applicants are required to submit an application to study and undertake an interview.

Natcoll applicants would have to take one year 2 paper 'BMA0D211 Audience Message Context', four Design core modules, two Intermedia modules and one free choice module.

Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design in Auckland

Digital Media (Advanced) graduates can apply for direct entry to year 3 of Whitecliffe's 4-year Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (Whitecliffe will even consider allowing DMA graduates who have produced an exceptional standard of work in DMA to enter at year 4).

All applications are treated on a case-by-case basis.

In year 3 Natcoll applicants would have to take one year 2 module called '1052 Social Science' along with the four compulsory modules that all year 3 students take and they would then have to choose one, rather than the usual two, optional modules.

In year 4 Natcoll applicants would do the three compulsory modules that all Whitecliffe students do.

Whitireia Community Polytechnic in Porirua

Digital Media (Advanced) graduates can apply for direct entry to year 3 of Whitireia's 3-year Bachelor of Applied Arts (Visual Arts and Design) degree.

Natcoll applicants must submit a portfolio including visual diary research and evidence of writing ability.

They may be required to do some 'catch-up' work on reporting and academic writing otherwise they would follow Whitireia's usual year 3 programme.

Unitec in Auckland

Digital Media (Advanced) graduates can apply for direct entry to year 3 of Unitec's 3-year Bachelor of Design and Visual Arts (Graphic Design and Animation) degree. In gaining Natcoll's DMA diploma, Unitec require you to have passed all three theory modules in the DMA course - Art History, Design History and Professional Practices (passing these is already a requirement to pass the diploma).

You will be required to submit a portfolio with your application.

You will be interviewed by Unitec staff and will be required to take to the interview evidence of your academic performance at both levels 6 and 7, this will usually mean copies of your Natcoll transcripts.
