An internship is a fixed term, structured, paid or unpaid work experience programme which is related to the student's course or career plans and mentored with supervision and feedback on work performance. It can be full-time or part-time work during holiday periods or term time alongside studies or after graduation. It can be paid employment with short term deferment of studies. Internships can take place in New Zealand or overseas.
Internships provide excellent means for enhancing recruitment activities. They give employers access to prospective employees and a chance to view the intern for future potential without any commitment to hire. Interns can bring enthusiasm and a fresh point of view to the workplace, stimulating creative thinking and providing new alternatives.
Benefits:
- Strengthen the relationship between your organisation and the training community - students and staff
- Meet short term project deadlines - interns can fill short term gaps in your workforce
- Tap into students who come equipped with the latest software skills and knowledge of recent technical innovations
- When you need to take on new staff, you will have a ready pool of talented peopled who understand your culture and can hit the ground running
Creative Bite Design Studio
YOOBEE @Natcoll has its own Work Experience Internship Programme located in the Auckland Campus. The Creative Bite Design Studio is for recent graduates of our diploma courses in Graphic Design, Web Design, Video Post Production, Interactive Design and 3D Animation.
During their time at Creative Bite the interns develop the skills studied, gain real-world experience much sought after by industry and enhance their student portfolios with “live” jobs. Some interns have already developed links with clients which have
led to industry employment opportunities.
How can Creative Bite help your business? You could subcontract work to them, use interns as relief staff or during busy times, use interns for project based work when an extra person is needed. Contact the Studio Manager to see if Creative Bite interns can help.
Real client briefs
In most courses students do at least one major project as part of their diploma and are often looking for real client briefs to work on. Please contact your nearest campus if you have work that may be suitable. It is usually possible during these projects for the employer to also act as a mentor and provide feedback if they wish.
Guest speakers/industry visits
