“Hectic! It was great!” Morgan Clapham spent two years studying at Natcoll and loved every minute. Starting out with the Diploma in Computer Graphic Design she then continued on to complete the Diploma of Digital Media Advanced. Morgan found that her first year prepared her technically while her second year enhanced her creativity. “The two are a great mix.”

It was during her last year of school (where she was taking subjects that fit with her love of design – Graphics, Photography, Media Studies and Drama) that Morgan decided Natcoll’s Diploma in Computer Graphic Design was her perfect match. “I am more of a ‘learn by doing’ kind of person so the short but intensive one year diploma with projects and no exams was perfect for me.” She found producing work from inception to a final product very satisfying and even better, to see it out in the real world.

Morgan now works for a home based Auckland company – Gifts to Remember. She does all their design work (print and web) primarily working on updating their various websites and performing office work. The experience of the more intensive courses prepared her for the busy deadline driven world of design, and specifically the Diploma of Digital Media Advanced helped with creating a CV, the interview process and how to do freelance work.

However, she does have some words of warning. “I learnt so much and I loved doing it but by the end of two years and two diplomas, I was ready to sleep for another two years. It is physically and mentally non-stop and exhausting – a 3-year degree squished into one!”
