Tom Museth
Tom Museth studied Natcoll’s Diploma of Web Development and describes the course as “amazingly intense and really enriching and well-structured“.
Tom had been interested in programming, and web development/design, for many years. He had previously completed a few short courses at Natcoll in 2008 which ‘whetted’ his appetite.
“ I had worked in the media industry as a journalist and subeditor for many years but felt I had done all I could in that field and was stagnating professionally. So I took the leap, quit my job and decided on a career change. It seemed a bit of a crazy idea to throw in my job at the age of 38 and retrain in a different industry, but within a few weeks of studying I knew it had been the right move and web development was a field I just loved learning about.”

Tom decided that the Natcoll Diploma of Web Development seemed like the right course for his needs and the price was more reasonable than other competing institutions. The course also prepared him well for working in industry, “We had some very good guest speakers, such as a tax consultant and the CTO of an up and coming web development company. We were also taught to code to industry best practices and follow an object-oriented programming blueprint.”

Tom now works as a Technical Editor for SitePoint in Melbourne, an educational resource company for web developers and designers. Tom’s new job is mainly involved in the production of books and digital media. “A large part of my job involves research; keeping ahead of the game in terms of what's new and happening in the web dev/design universe, translating new ideas into marketable products, attending industry events and networking with industry figures.”
Tom describes his Natcoll experience as amazing and one of the most enjoyable years of his life.
